Batman doesn’t fly. He doesn’t melt steel with his eyes. He doesn’t have speed that bends time.
What he does have is the Detective skill.
On page 76 of the DC Heroes 3rd Edition core book, this skill is broken into five subskills. Clue Analysis, Counterfeit Recognition, Identification Systems, Law, and Police Procedure. Each one feels small on its own. Put them together, and you get the foundation of Gotham storytelling.
Clue Analysis lets you pull story out of scraps. One RAP reveals the basics. Push further, and you uncover entire chains of evidence. A cigarette holder becomes a map of poisons, habits, and identities.
Counterfeit Recognition exposes forgeries. Identification Systems ties characters to labs and technology. Law makes the aftermath matter. Police Procedure lets heroes walk the line between vigilante and ally.
And that’s the point. These aren’t just mechanics. They’re the things that keep Gotham breathing. They turn Batman from a brawler into something scarier. Someone who never misses a clue. Someone who always pulls the thread until the whole crime unravels.
In DC Heroes, you don’t need cosmic power to feel like a superhero. You just need the right skill.
