COBRA STANDARD-ISSUE LASER RIFLE
BODY: 5
EV: 6
Range: 10 APs
Features:
• Semi-Automatic & Full Auto Mode – Can fire single shots or sustained bursts
• Rechargeable Power Cell – Can fire indefinitely when connected to a Cobra power source
• Standard-Issue Sight – No additional targeting bonuses
• Lightweight Design – Easily carried by standard infantry
Advantages:
• Energy Weapon (No need for traditional ammunition, reducing supply chain concerns)
• High Rate of Fire (Capable of burst fire for suppression)
• Non-Lethal Stun Setting (Can be adjusted for non-lethal use in special operations)
Drawbacks:
• Power Drain (Extended full-auto use can overheat the weapon or deplete charge quickly)
• Limited Armor Penetration (Less effective against heavily armored targets)
• Bright Tracer Beams (Laser fire is visible, making it easier to track the shooter’s position)
Background:
Cobra’s Standard-Issue Laser Rifle is the primary weapon carried by Cobra Troopers, Officers, and vehicle gunners in battle. Unlike conventional firearms, it fires continuous energy pulses, allowing for sustained suppressing fire or pinpoint single shots. The rifle's modular energy cells make it easy to recharge, though excessive full-auto fire can lead to overheating or rapid depletion.
While effective against infantry and vehicles, the Cobra laser rifle struggles against heavily reinforced armor like G.I. Joe’s VAMPs, Skystrikers, and battle suits. The bright, visible beams also make it easier to track the shooter, reducing its stealth capabilities. Nevertheless, its ease of use, lack of traditional ammunition requirements, and ability to fire in almost any environment make it a staple weapon in Cobra's arsenal.
