Gotham & Beyond Podcast Season 2, Episode 1 — Why DC Heroes Still Matters: A Superhero RPG Worth Remembering

Season 2. Here we go.

This episode shifts Gotham & Beyond into new territory. Or maybe it's older territory we left behind for too long. We're stepping back into the world of the DC Heroes Roleplaying Game, focusing on the third edition from Mayfair. The one with the charts. The scale. The one that quietly understood what it meant to be a superhero at the table.

No, this isn’t a dry rulebook breakdown. This is memory. Momentum. Design that somehow knew what it was doing, even if we didn’t always see it at the time.

Why did this system, with its strange exponential math and logic-defying table, feel right?

Why could Superman and Batman share a scene without anyone feeling out of place?

And why does this game still matter, all these years later?

We talk about MEGS. About how the chart breathes, once you let it. We talk about character sheets that feel like origin stories, waiting to happen. And yeah... we tell a story or two. Including one about a player-made magnetic antihero who flew too close to a car and paid the price. His name was Polarity.

This is the start of something. A season built around a system most people forgot to remember.

If you’ve ever pulled that book off a shelf and whispered "not yet"...

It might be time.
